Learner Recruitment for advanced digital skills programmes: outreach beyond “already connected” audiences

The challenge?

Structural barriers such as specific language usage, low digital confidence, etc. reduce applications and participation from certain learners and underrepresented groups

Our solution

Apply inclusive-language guidelines + review/check (human or tool-supported) for course pages, emails, social posts. They must explicitly state the target group, prerequisites (“no prior experience needed” where applicable)

Outcomes

Qualitative outcomes:

  • Clearer communication
  • Lower perceived entry barrier

Expected outcomes:

  • Improved uptake from underrepresented groups (to be measured)

Key takeaways

‘Low-effort’ lever – directly addresses known barriers and supports reaching underrepresented groups
